ABOUT.

Of Swedish origin and now living in Newcastle upon Tyne, Nathalie made her mark in Swedish pop punk band Candysuck, part of the Swedish feminist movement in the mid-90s. She relocated to the UK in 1998 and founded the duo Lake Me, releasing one album, ‘Solace’, in 2005. Keen to explore her traditional Swedish folk heritage with more experimental sounds, she released her debut solo album ‘Firetales’ (her own label Minta Rec and The Company With The Golden Arm) in 2009 and the long-awaited follow-up, ‘Nerves and Skin’ (Inverted Grim Mill Recordings and Cruel Nature Records), in 2019.

Using a sparse set up of loop pedals, vocal effects and synths, Nathalie sculpts haunting soundscapes that fuse a love of old folk songs, horror and folk lore with vocals and lo-fi electro drone textures. Featuring Lindsay Duncanson and Marek Gabrysch from the experimental collective Noize Choir and award-winning trombonist Hannabiell Sanders, ‘Nerves and Skin' demonstrates the maturity of an artist who knows their craft and is at the top of their game.

Nathalie continues to evolve her sound and discover new sonal spaces; her current material sees her moving into a purer choral space, sometimes supported by lo-fi drones or performed fully a capella using loops.

Having toured throughout the UK, Europe and North America, Nathalie has supported luminaries like Melvins, Tune-Yards, Laetitia Sadier, Mary Lattimore, Silver Apples, Daniel Higgs, performed as part of Damo Suzuki ‘s Network and was invited to join Thor Harris & Friends for an improv gig in Austin, Texas. She has performed at BBC Radio 3’s Free Thinking Festival and is featured in ‘Folk Horror Revival Volume II – Sweet Fruits’ (Wyrd Harvest Press, 2018), a book series of folk horror literature, poetry and artwork. Nathalie also features on Richard Dawson’s ‘Peasant’ album, (2017, Weird World/Domino), formed part of Paul Smith’s backing band in 2018 on a joint tour with Kathryn Williams, and has produced a few shows, HÄX, for CAMP Radio
